A specialist team from Northamptonshire Police won a court case against an online child abuser in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, on 2 March 2026. The Online Child Abuse Investigation Unit secured the victory as part of a wider effort to stop criminals from targeting children through digital platforms.

Following the result at Northampton Crown Court, the police issued a warning that there is nowhere to hide for people who use the internet to commit these crimes. Officers stated that they are working to bring offenders to justice regardless of their attempts to stay anonymous online.

This specialist unit has a history of high success rates, recording more than 50 convictions across the county in 2022. Detective Inspector Matt Haworth, a lead investigator for the unit, has previously highlighted the importance of a zero-tolerance approach to these investigations.

Local parents and carers in Wellingborough are now being encouraged to check the parental controls on mobile phones and computers. The police are also asking anyone who sees worrying or suspicious online messages to report them to help protect the community.
