Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service is hosting a free road safety workshop for motorists aged 65 and over at Haverhill Fire Station in Suffolk on 18 March 2026. This two-hour session aims to help experienced drivers stay safe and confident on modern roads.

The workshop will run from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the fire station located on Lordscroft Lane. It is designed to share practical advice for navigating complex roads and refreshing driving skills for residents who have been behind the wheel for many years.

This initiative follows government statistics showing that failing to look properly is the most common factor in accidents involving older motorists. This issue was cited in more than 42 per cent of incidents for this age group, which is higher than the average for all drivers.

Suffolk has one of the highest proportions of older drivers in the country, with some local areas ranking in the top 20 across England and Wales. The Haverhill event is part of a larger county-wide tour that includes sessions in Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds, and Brandon through May 2026.

Residents who wish to attend must book a place in advance. Bookings are being managed through the fire service road safety page on the Eventbrite website.
