Torbay Council thanked more than 100 volunteers and baton bearers at a special event on Friday 27 February 2026 for their work on the 2025 Torbay Baton of Hope in Torquay, Devon.

The relay took place on 30 September 2025 and saw participants travel through Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham to raise awareness for suicide prevention. This local effort was inspired by the memory of Tommy Spink, a young man from the community.

According to Torbay Council, the initiative included a fundraiser at the Riviera International Centre which featured local talent and national performers. Cllr Nick Bye, who serves on the council, also took part as one of the official baton bearers during the walk.

The Torbay Baton of Hope was designed to help residents talk more openly about mental health and offer support to those affected by suicide. Council leaders hope that celebrating these volunteers will encourage more residents to join future community projects and keep the local support network strong.
