On Monday 2 March 2026, a fire crew from Dogsthorpe was called to deal with a bonfire that had grown out of control on Lincoln Road in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The emergency responders arrived at 7:18 PM to find the fire spreading, requiring immediate action to prevent it from reaching nearby buildings in the busy residential area.

The team from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service used a hose reel and specialized small gear to extinguish the flames. They successfully put out the fire and were able to return to their station by 7:45 PM, less than half an hour after arriving on the scene.

This incident comes just eight days after a much larger commercial building fire on the same street on 22 February 2026, which required six fire engines to control. Because of that recent blaze, local safety officials are reminding residents to be extra careful with open fires and to follow local rules for getting rid of rubbish.

Peterborough City Council suggests that people use the official garden waste collection service, often known as brown bins, instead of burning waste. Residents can also take items to the Household Recycling Centre in Fengate to avoid creating thick smoke that can bother neighbours or lead to council fines.

Firefighters advise that people should never use flammable liquids to start a fire and should avoid burning damp garden waste. Following these simple rules helps keep the community safe and prevents emergency crews from being called away from other life-threatening incidents.
