Police have confirmed that the body of a 34-year-old man was found during a search in Washington, Tyne and Wear. Officers from Northumbria Police discovered the body of Christopher Davies shortly before midday on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
The discovery was made on the north bank of the River Wear, near Barmston Lane. Mr Davies had been missing since 11 February 2026, when he was last seen in the area of Barmston Court and the Swan Industrial Estate.
The find brings an end to a weeks-long search that had deeply affected the local community. During the search, his family, including his brother Scott Davies, had made several public appeals for information to help bring him home.
While formal identification procedures followed the discovery, police confirmed the description matched the missing 34-year-old. The incident marks a sombre moment for residents who had been following the search for the missing local man.
This discovery concludes the search operation that began last month. The community is now mourning the loss of the Washington resident after the search ended in tragedy this week.
