The York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity has raised more than £62,000 to help improve the new specialist baby unit at York Hospital in North Yorkshire. The Tiny Lives Appeal reached this milestone on 8 March 2026, hitting 62 per cent of its £100,000 total goal.

The money will be used to buy items that help parents and babies feel more at home while they are in the hospital. These extras include specialist reclining chairs for parents staying overnight, twin cots to help babies bond, and therapeutic skylights that provide a more calming environment.

The York Hospital Neonatal Unit is currently undergoing a £2 million refurbishment and is expected to open in Spring 2026. The funds from the appeal ensure that the new space is comfortable for families and goes beyond standard medical requirements.

This specialist unit provides critical care for newborns who are premature or unwell. The charity is continuing its fundraising efforts to reach the full target before the unit opens later this year.
