Gloucester City Council will host an official switch-on ceremony for Kyneburgh Tower Illuminated on 20 March 2026 to mark World Happiness Day in Gloucestershire.

The 16-metre-high steel sculpture in Kimbrose Square was designed by artist Tom Price and has been a landmark in the city since 2011. It was originally installed as part of a major regeneration project to create a clear connection between the city centre and the historic docks.

The new lighting is intended to turn the sculpture into a bright feature that people can enjoy after dark. Council officials believe this will make the area more welcoming for families and residents during the evening hours.

By making the route more attractive, the project aims to support local trade in the surrounding streets. Nearby businesses such as bars and restaurants are expected to see more customers as a result of the new night-time attraction.
