Gateshead Central Library in Tyne and Wear is hosting a variety of community arts and history events throughout March 2026. This programme includes local history talks, creative art workshops, and groups for young people to help residents learn new skills and connect with their neighbours.

The library is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, having first opened its doors to the public in 1926. To mark a century of service, the building is offering sessions that range from traditional storytelling to modern technology classes.

A key part of the current library service is the MakerPlace, a dedicated area where residents can use professional equipment. According to Gateshead Council, the space features 3D printers, laser cutters, and heat presses for local craft and design projects.

Information from OurGateshead shows that residents aged 16 and over can join the creative space after they complete a short induction. For those under 16, access to the specialist tools is provided through specific workshops and activity sessions led by library staff.
