Watford Borough Council completed a series of accessibility and noise-reduction improvements at the Cassiobury Park Hub in Hertfordshire on 9 March 2026. The project aims to make the park more inclusive for families and visitors with mobility needs by providing better seating and improved indoor facilities.

Two new picnic benches that are fully accessible for wheelchair users were installed on a newly paved tarmac pad to ensure the ground is level and safe. This part of the project was funded by a grant from ASDA and the council’s Neighbourhood Grant programme, in partnership with the Friends of Cassiobury Park who helped secure the funding.

Along with the outdoor seating, the council invested £20,000 to improve the building’s indoor community space. The money was used for indoor sound improvements that added sound-absorbing panels and moveable screens, which allows the room to be adapted for many different types of bookings and community events.

Peter Taylor, the Elected Mayor of Watford, said the new benches are a simple but important improvement to ensure everyone can enjoy the park. He noted that the investment shows the council’s commitment to making community spaces work for more people, more of the time.

The improvements were also supported by members of the local charity Watford Mencap. They highlighted how the new seating and hub facilities provide a more comfortable and effective way for people with mobility needs to gather and use the park.
