Warrington Borough Council has approved a proposal to increase the number of local representatives and change ward boundaries across the borough. This plan was confirmed as part of an official response to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England, which is currently reviewing how the area is governed.

The review aims to update the local political map to ensure that each councillor represents a similar number of residents. At present, Warrington Borough Council operates with 58 councillors across 22 different wards, with the last major changes to these areas taking place in 2016.

Residents have until 16 March 2026 to provide their own feedback on the current boundaries before this stage of the process closes. The independent commission will then release its first set of draft ideas in June 2026, followed by a second chance for the public to comment on those specific suggestions.

A final decision on the number of councillors and the names of new wards is expected to be reached in December 2026. These changes will be put in place in time for the next set of all-out local elections in May 2028, determining how people across the borough are represented for the following four years.
