Crawley Borough Council has secured £200,000 in grant funding to modernise 23 community centres and pavilions across Crawley, West Sussex. Announced on 12 March 2026, the Community Hubs project will bring new smart technology to these local meeting points to make them easier to run and more secure for the public.

The money will pay for new security cameras, door entry systems, and heating controls that can be managed from a distance. These upgrades should help the council save on energy bills and reduce the time staff spend travelling between different sites to open and close buildings.

The new systems are also designed to meet the requirements of Martyn’s Law, which is a set of national rules created to improve safety in public spaces. This law, officially called the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, makes it mandatory for public buildings to have better security and emergency plans in place.

This work is included in the council’s plans for the 2026 to 2027 budget period to ensure that neighbourhood centres remain vital resources for residents. By using an external grant, the council can increase the amount of safety and maintenance work it carries out in these local buildings.
