A new report released on 13 March 2026 confirms that the visitor sector in Reading, Berkshire, contributed more than £405 million to the local economy, highlighting the town’s strong appeal to tourists and business travellers.

The data was published by Reading’s Economy & Destination Agency (REDA). It shows that money spent at local hospitality businesses and events is a vital part of the town’s financial health.

This latest total of over £405 million represents a significant recovery and record high for the area. While figures from January 2024 estimated the sector was worth nearly £400 million, the visitor economy was later valued at around £330 million in February 2025 before rising to its current peak.

Organisations such as the Reading Business Improvement District and Reading Borough Council have supported this growth. They have worked together to improve the town centre and make it more welcoming for everyone who visits.
