Oxfordshire County Council has announced it will spend £150,000 on a series of improvements to the Gloucester Green bus and coach station in Oxford. The project, confirmed on 18 March 2026, aims to make the transport hub cleaner and more comfortable for residents and travellers.

The money for this project is part of a larger £10 million grant awarded to the Oxfordshire County Council and local bus companies in July 2025. This funding was set aside specifically to improve bus services and facilities across the county through a government-backed improvement plan.

Passengers using the station will see several changes, including a deep clean of all areas and fresh paint. The council plans to install new seating that is easier for everyone to use, along with larger planters and updated signs to help people find their way.

The station will also receive new screens showing live arrival and departure times so passengers know exactly when their bus is coming. Other work includes putting up new noticeboards, clearing away clutter, and installing measures to keep pigeons away from the building.

This project is a joint effort between the county council, Oxford City Council, and the service provider ODS. Local officials say the work is a necessary step to fix the station’s tired appearance, which has been in use since 1989.
