On 18 March 2026, a 20-year-old man from Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire, was sentenced to 18 months for Class A drug offences. Leighton Finn-Gibbs, who lives on Selkirk Close, was arrested after Cleveland Police searched a house on Wellesley Road.

The search took place on 30 December 2025 and was carried out by the Middlesbrough Proactive Team. Officers found evidence on a mobile phone that showed Finn-Gibbs was trying to recruit other people to help him sell drugs.

This conviction marks the second time Finn-Gibbs has been sent to jail for drug-related crimes. He was previously imprisoned for selling Class A drugs and dangerous driving after he rammed a car into a police vehicle.

Sergeant John Sproson said that the police are working hard to stop drug dealing and protect the community from criminal activity. The force uses these proactive operations to find and shut down local drug networks.
