The Met Office has forecast a shift to windier and wetter conditions in Haverhill, Suffolk, starting on Tuesday 24 March 2026. This change marks the end of a calm and dry period, with residents advised to prepare for strong wind gusts and heavy rain over the coming days.

On Tuesday, cloud cover will increase and winds will strengthen to reach gusts of 36mph. The chance of rain will rise significantly during the evening, moving from a 40 per cent chance at 7pm to a 90 per cent chance of heavy rain by late Tuesday night. These conditions are a sharp contrast to Monday, which saw dry weather and light winds of only 17mph.

Wednesday 25 March 2026 is expected to see the most difficult conditions, with wind gusts reaching up to 41mph. Although temperatures will reach 8C, the wind and scattered heavy showers will make it feel like 4C for those outdoors.

The Met Office has issued travel advice for the windy weather, suggesting that drivers keep a firm grip on their steering wheel with both hands. Motorists should also give extra space to pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, who are more likely to be blown around by side winds. Drivers should stay alert for sudden gusts when passing between gaps in buildings or trees.

The unsettled weather may impact local travel and outdoor activities, including ongoing roadworks in the town. According to Suffolk public notices, there is currently a temporary closure on Swan Lane for excavation and paving works. This forecast was last updated at 4:25am on Monday 23 March 2026.
