Residents in Basingstoke, Hampshire, are preparing for a sharp drop in temperatures this week as a warm start gives way to cold winds and potential frost. On Monday 23 March 2026, the town will see highs of 15°C with sunny intervals and light winds. However, the Met Office predicts a shift starting Tuesday 24 March 2026, when clouds will move in and wind gusts will increase to 36mph.

Wednesday 25 March 2026 will bring a significant cooling trend with a top temperature of only 9°C. Because of strong winds reaching 39mph, it will feel as cold as 4°C during the day. A 40 per cent chance of rain is also expected on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

Thursday 26 March 2026 is expected to be the chilliest day, reaching a maximum of 8°C with a nighttime low of 2°C and a risk of frost. Forecasters at the Met Office say this pattern of warm sunshine followed by cold spells is normal for this time of year. The change is being caused by cold air moving in from the north-west.

According to data from Weather and Climate, Basingstoke usually sees maximum temperatures between 10°C and 12°C during March. Conditions are expected to improve slightly by Friday 27 March 2026, with light rain followed by a gradual recovery. Temperatures are predicted to return to around 13°C by Sunday 29 March 2026.
