A 34-year-old man from Hillingdon pleaded guilty at Swindon Crown Court on 20 March 2026 to five charges after a police chase in Swindon, Wiltshire, left a 14-year-old girl with serious injuries.

Patrick McCann, of Walnut Avenue, admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and being over the drug-drive limit during the incident on 1 February 2026.

According to Wiltshire Police, officers spotted McCann driving his BMW dangerously in Chippenham before chasing the vehicle to the A350 at Lacock. The pursuit ended when McCann’s car crashed into a Volkswagen Transporter carrying a family of five at the Whitehall Garden Centre junction.

A 14-year-old passenger in the family car suffered multiple fractures, substantial organ damage, and internal bleeding, requiring emergency care at Southmead Hospital. McCann pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of the collision and later escaping from police custody in Swindon after he was located and arrested.

McCann has been given an interim driving disqualification and will remain in custody until his sentencing on 29 May 2026.
