A community petition to stop building work on the Frimley Fuel Allotments woodland in Camberley, Surrey, has reached 8,010 signatures as of 22 March 2026. The campaign was started by the Heatherside Ward Residents Association to protect the green space from being turned into a new hospital or a large housing estate.

The campaign group Protect FFA is concerned that the land may be used for an 800-bed hospital or more than 1,000 homes. Residents from Frimley, Deepcut, and Camberley have raised issues about increased traffic on local roads and the loss of a natural area that supports animals like adders and badgers.

The Frimley Fuel Allotments Charity owns the land and is considering the sale, despite reports that its income from a golf course lease already covers its costs. The woodland has been a part of the local community for over 200 years and is the last surviving part of the historic Frimley Common.

Surrey Heath Borough Council has asked for more information from the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust about how a site will be chosen for the new £1.5 billion hospital. A final announcement on the preferred location for the project is expected in the summer of 2026.

The existing hospital needs to be replaced because of aging concrete that is nearing the end of its safe life. While the project is part of a national government programme, local people remain worried about the impact that building on this specific green space would have on the community.
