Police have responded to several disturbances at the derelict Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, Wiltshire, where safety concerns are growing after people were caught inside the building this week while it remains empty and awaiting repair.

The popular family attraction has been closed since November 2020 and remains empty after missing a target to reopen in January 2026. The campaign group Save Oasis Swindon has warned that people are regularly entering the building without permission, which could lead to someone getting hurt.

According to Wiltshire Police, a 16-year-old boy was seriously injured in a suspected stabbing near the site in January 2026. Swindon Borough Council leader Jim Robbins said he will contact the site owner, Seven Capital, to ask for better security measures at the property.

The council rejected a plan to build 710 flats on the land in July 2025, leaving the future of the leisure centre uncertain. The building is famous for its iconic dome and lagoon pool, which received special protected status as Grade II listed structures in December 2021.

The venue is also part of music history, as it inspired the name of the rock band Oasis. Lead singer Liam Gallagher suggested the name after seeing the venue listed on an Inspiral Carpets tour poster.
