A man in his 50s has suffered life-threatening injuries after falling from an electric scooter in the Far Cotton area of Northamptonshire on 21 March 2026. The incident happened at about 3:10am on Rothersthorpe Avenue as the rider was travelling towards the junction with Main Road.

According to Northamptonshire Police, the man became separated from his scooter while turning into the road. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, but the rider sustained very serious injuries during the fall.

Emergency services took the man to University Hospital Coventry, which is a major trauma centre, for urgent treatment. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now leading an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

Police are asking local residents and drivers for help with their enquiries. They are looking for any witnesses or anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell camera, or dash-cam footage from the area around Rothersthorpe Road and Rothersthorpe Avenue that captured the scooter before the incident.

Under UK government guidance, it is illegal to use privately-owned electric scooters on public roads, pavements, or cycle paths. Recent figures from PACTS show that scooter-related casualties have risen across the country, with 59 deaths recorded since 2019.
