The Headgate Theatre in Colchester, Essex, has released its new line-up of shows for the spring and summer of 2026. The programme includes a variety of plays and musical performances that will run from April through to late July. Residents can now see the full list of events and plan their visits to the Chapel Street North venue over the coming months.

Upcoming productions include the football drama The Invincibles from 22 April to 25 April 2026 and the play Festen in early May. The theatre will also host the musical No, No, Nanette and the play A Fete Worse Than Death during May. In June, residents can see The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and a musical performance called Music Through the Decades.

These changes are part of a new five-year plan led by the theatre’s director, Dr Cameron Abbott-Betts, to bring more opportunities to local performers. The building is a former 1844 chapel that was turned into a theatre in 2002 and now houses an 87-seat main stage. It is managed by a local charity called the Theatre Arts Action Trust.

Many of the scheduled plays are organised by Headgate Theatre Productions, an in-house group that puts on several shows each year. The theatre also runs regular drama workshops for children and creative arts sessions for people over the age of 55. This new schedule replaces older listings, such as a political talk that took place earlier in March.

People who belong to the theatre’s loyalty programme can often get early access to tickets for many of the new shows. The venue, which includes a licensed bar and studio space, remains a key spot for local arts and culture in the city centre. All tickets for the new spring and summer season are now available for the public to book online.
