Mayor Peter Taylor has backed a special bus service that helps residents in Watford, Hertfordshire, get to the supermarket. Watford Borough Council and Communities 1st run the service to help people with mobility issues or those who feel nervous about leaving the house.

The bus runs every Monday and Tuesday, taking passengers directly from their doors to supermarkets such as ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl, and Tesco. A return trip costs £6 per person, plus a £10 annual membership fee, while people who travel as a carer pay £2 for a return journey.

The service launched on 2 January 2024 to replace the ArrivaClick bus service, which closed down at the end of 2023. It was designed to give vulnerable residents a reliable way to stay independent and manage their own shopping trips.

Mayor Peter Taylor, who is standing for re-election in May 2026, has ridden the bus himself and praised the friendly staff and the convenience it offers to local people. Since it began, the service has become a vital resource for the community, having surpassed its 100th booking milestone within its first few months of operation.

A similar bus service is also funded by Three Rivers District Council for residents in nearby areas like Abbots Langley and South Oxhey. This helps more people in the wider area travel to Watford supermarkets safely and easily.
