Managers of The Eagle pub in Norwich, Norfolk, are considering closing their doors on 11 April 2026 due to safety concerns. James and Jill Linder, who run the venue at 33 Newmarket Road, were warned by Norfolk Police that a right-wing group called Unite the Right UK plans to target the building.

The date of the protest coincides with a major local football match between Norwich City FC and Ipswich Town FC. With thousands of fans expected to be in the city for the 12:30 kick-off, the managers at The Eagle stated that the safety of their staff and the community must come before financial gain.

Owners have made it clear that they do not support the protest and that hatred will not be tolerated at the pub. While Norfolk Police were originally monitoring a different date, they confirmed they are now watching the situation for 11 April 2026 after reports spread on social media.

This situation follows reports from HOPE not hate which identified Norwich as a main area for these types of events. A similar issue happened in 2023 when the Norkie pub in Bowthorpe was forced to close temporarily after being listed on protest leaflets without its consent.
