The Met Office has issued a warning for dangerous sea conditions at Blackpool beach in Lancashire, with waves expected to reach 2.6 metres on Wednesday 25 March 2026. Experts say there is a very high chance of injury for anyone in or near the water due to these large, powerful waves and wind gusts of up to 54mph.
The dangerous conditions are expected to be most intense around a high tide of 7.5 metres at 3:29pm. Forecasters warn that the strong winds may affect a person’s balance or blow them off course while walking near the coastline.
This shift to cold and wet weather follows a warm start to spring where the UK saw its highest temperatures of the year so far. While the actual air temperature is expected to reach 8°C, a strong wind chill will make it feel as cold as -1°C for those visiting the seafront today.
The RNLI has warned that waves can race up to 300 metres up the beach or over sea walls, catching spectators and walkers by surprise. Although the Environment Agency confirmed a previous flood alert for the area is no longer in force as of this morning, officials say the sea remains much more hazardous than usual.
