York Knights suffered a 26-14 defeat to Wakefield Trinity in their Super League match at the LNER Community Stadium on March 27, 2026. The result leaves York fourth from bottom of the league table with just two wins from six matches this season.

Wakefield’s wingers Tom Johnstone and Oliver Pratt each crossed for two tries, while Caleb Hamlin-Uele added another. For York, Sam Wood, Ben Jones-Bishop, and Nikau Williams scored the home side’s tries.

York led twice during the first half and were within two points of Wakefield until the visitors scored two tries in the final four minutes to secure victory. Wakefield’s win marked their third consecutive triumph, moving them up to third place in the Super League table.

York Knights Head Coach Mark Applegarth, who previously managed Wakefield before their relegation in 2023, acknowledged his side’s determination despite the defeat. The match had added significance as Applegarth returned to face his former club.

On the same day as the match, Wakefield announced the signing of NRL star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on a two-year deal starting from the 2027 season.

York’s next fixture will see them look to bounce back as they continue their first Super League campaign, having started the season with an impressive 19-18 victory over defending champions Hull Kingston Rovers before struggling for consistency.
