Seasonal blue litter bins are set to return to the seafront in Clacton-on-Sea and across the wider district from April through to the end of September 2026. Tendring District Council is reintroducing the bins to help manage the increase in rubbish during the busy summer months along the Essex Sunshine Coast.

The bins will be stationed in seven coastal locations, including Clacton-on-Sea, Jaywick Sands, Holland-on-Sea, Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, Brightlingsea, and Harwich. To keep these areas clean, the bins will be emptied twice daily, seven days a week, throughout the summer season.

The council is managing these collections alongside its waste contractor, Veolia. In addition to the bin collections, council teams and Veolia staff will perform early-morning and evening cleans along the seafront. These efforts will be supported by local volunteer groups to help maintain a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.

This initiative is part of a wider three-year, £30 million waste, recycling, and street-cleaning agreement between the council and Veolia. As part of these ongoing service changes, approximately 1,400 additional households will receive weekly food waste collections starting in early April. Furthermore, the council plans to add kerbside glass recycling to its existing collection services starting in October 2026.
