Warwick District Council is now accepting applications for a new grant scheme aimed at helping local private homeowners and renters improve the energy efficiency of their properties in Royal Leamington Spa. The initiative, funded by a £2.42 million grant from the Government’s Warm Homes Local Grant scheme, is designed to lower energy bills and keep homes warmer throughout the year.
The scheme targets approximately 150 households in the district that may be struggling with energy costs. Eligible improvements include the installation of loft, cavity wall, and external wall insulation, as well as air source heat pumps, solar panels, and smart heating controls. Councillor Lowell Williams, Portfolio Holder for Decarbonisation at Warwick District Council, stated that these upgrades are a significant opportunity for residents to manage their fuel costs and maintain comfort in their homes.
To qualify for the funding, applicants must own and live in their home or be private tenants with their landlord’s permission. Additionally, households must have a gross annual income of £36,000 or less, live in an eligible postcode area, or be in receipt of means-tested benefits. Properties must also have an energy performance certificate rating of D, E, F, or G to be considered. Please note that social housing residents are not eligible for this programme.
The council is managing the project with the help of three delivery partners. Act on Energy is handling the application process and providing support, while Energy Efficiency Consultants and the Broad Oak Group will oversee technical assessments and installations. Because of the high demand and the specific funding requirements, the process from the initial application to the completion of work can take between 4 and 12 months.
With an estimated 14.1% of households in the Warwick and Leamington area living in fuel poverty, this project follows previous council efforts that successfully delivered over 300 energy efficiency measures for households in the district. Interested residents can find more information and apply by visiting the council’s website, emailing [email protected], or calling Act on Energy at 0800 988 2881.
