A 21-year-old man from Warrington has been arrested following an incident where a police officer was dragged along the road by a motorbike. The event took place at approximately 11.30pm on Thursday 26 March 2026 in the Fairfield and Howley area after officers responded to reports of a disturbance.

According to the Cheshire Constabulary, officers had asked the man multiple times to leave an address, but he refused. When an officer approached the man, who was sitting on his motorbike, to ask him to leave the area again, the suspect started the vehicle and drove off. The officer was dragged along the road during the escape but managed to break free without sustaining any serious injuries.

The rider fled the scene following the incident but later handed himself in at the Warrington Police Station on Friday 27 March 2026. The man remains in police custody while the investigation continues. He has been arrested on suspicion of Section 39 assault, assault of an emergency worker, and dangerous driving.

Superintendent Sam Billington, the Area Commander for Warrington, condemned the actions. He stated that assaults on emergency workers are utterly unacceptable and that the force will use every lawful power available to ensure those who harm officers or endanger the public are brought to justice.

Historical figures from the Manchester Evening News and the Chester Standard highlight that officer safety has been a recurring concern in the region. Previous data indicated that more than 50 police officers were being assaulted per month across Cheshire as of 2020, with other incidents involving multiple officers being attacked within short timeframes in Warrington. The officer involved in this recent incident is receiving support from the force.
