Residents in Northampton who rely on the Northamptonshire Central Library for books, internet access, or council-related services should prepare for a temporary closure over the Easter weekend.

The facility on Abington Street will be closed from Friday 3 April to Monday 6 April 2026 for the Easter public holiday. This closure is part of a county-wide policy affecting all library branches managed by the West Northamptonshire Council and the North Northamptonshire Council.

The library provides essential support for many members of the community, including assistance with online applications for older person’s and disabled person’s bus passes. Staff also provide help for Blue Badge parking permit applications, which is available by appointment. Residents who need to access these services or use the library’s free computers are encouraged to plan their visits around the four-day closure. Regular library services and opening hours will resume on Tuesday 7 April 2026.

Prior to the closure, the library hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for children, which ran from 28 March until 2 April. The library remains equipped with accessibility features, including wheelchair access and a designated quieter hour for those who prefer a less busy environment when the facility reopens.
