Residents in Stockport should prepare for a wet and windy holiday weekend as the Met Office has forecast unsettled conditions across Greater Manchester for Easter. The coming days will bring spells of rain and strong gusts, which are expected to impact travel and outdoor plans throughout the region.

According to the latest forecast, Good Friday on 3 April will see gusts reach 32mph. Easter Saturday is anticipated to be the windiest day of the weekend, with gusts potentially hitting 41mph. While temperatures are expected to reach highs of 15C, the wind chill will make conditions feel significantly colder for those outdoors. Gusts are expected to continue into Easter Sunday, reaching 36mph with temperatures around 11C.

This weather coincides with what is expected to be one of the busiest travel periods in years. Studies from the RAC and traffic analysts at Inrix suggest that nearly 21 million leisure journeys are planned across the country between Thursday and Easter Monday. Drivers are advised to anticipate potential congestion, especially as Network Rail has announced over 270 engineering projects across Britain, which may force more commuters onto the roads.

Despite rising fuel costs, with petrol prices now exceeding 150p per litre, most travellers are not expected to change their plans. While the Environment Agency currently rates the overall flood risk for England as very low, residents planning events or travel are encouraged to stay updated on the weather conditions as the holiday approaches.
