A new free shuttle bus service is set to launch in Slough this May, providing a direct link between Slough Trading Estate and Burnham Station. The service aims to make commuting easier and more affordable for the over 15,000 people who work at the estate by offering a reliable connection to the Elizabeth line.
The service is being introduced by SEGRO, the company that owns and manages the trading estate. It will operate using two 16-seater buses on weekdays, running between 8am and 6pm. During peak commuting hours of 8am to 9:30am and 4pm to 6pm, buses will run every 15 minutes to match up with train arrivals. During the quieter middle of the day, buses will run every 30 minutes.
The route will start at Burnham Station, which is served by the Elizabeth line, and travel along Buckingham Avenue. The buses will loop at Bestobell Road and provide stops at the Buckingham Centre, offering workers easy access to local services and amenities. The initiative is part of broader planning commitments for the estate, which is home to approximately 320 businesses.
Jo Jackson, Director for the Thames Valley at SEGRO, stated that the new shuttle service is a practical investment designed to help people travel swiftly, sustainably. The move is expected to strengthen connections between the estate and the wider region, supporting the 320 businesses located there, which include major employers such as Mars, DHL, and Octopus Energy.
The shuttle is being rolled out under the current Slough Planning Zone framework, which has been in place since 1995 to help attract business investment to the area. The Thames Valley Chamber of Commerce, which represents many local businesses, has supported efforts to improve regional connectivity for the area’s workforce.
