The Eggcup food club in Lancaster is moving its operations to two new locations following the permanent closure of its Chapel Street premises. The move comes after a partial wall collapse on 24 March 2026, which rendered the building unsafe and forced emergency services to secure the site.

Existing members of the food club, which helps more than 600 families across the district, are being transitioned to alternative venues. From Monday 6 April, a new site will open at St Chad’s Church Hall on Torrisholme Road, operating every Monday between 2pm and 3.45pm. Additionally, the club will open at The Gregson Community & Arts Centre on Moorgate starting Tuesday 7 April, with sessions held every Tuesday from 2pm to 3.30pm.

The charity, which is part of the Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership, is currently only accepting transfers for members who previously used the Chapel Street location. No new memberships are being processed at this time.

Members who have not yet received a direct phone call from the organisation regarding the change are asked to email [email protected] to arrange their transfer. The move marks a significant shift for the charity, which has relied on community support and donations to continue its work in providing affordable food access to local residents since 2020.
