A 62-year-old man from Fleet is set to appear in court to face charges of assault and criminal damage following an incident at the former Fleet Medical Centre on Church Road. The charges follow an altercation on 19 January, during which a female staff member was injured and a plastic screen was damaged.

The incident began at approximately 3.40pm when a man entered the facility and acted in a threatening manner toward employees. The injured staff member required hospital treatment following the confrontation. Hampshire Constabulary arrested the man two days later on 21 January.

The man faces accusations of common assault of an emergency worker, criminal damage to property, and using threatening or abusive behaviour. The legal proceedings come as the local practice, which was previously rated as Good by the Care Quality Commission, has since merged to form the Hart Health Partnership.

This case arrives during a period of concern regarding the safety of healthcare workers across England. According to the British Medical Association, violent incidents at GP surgeries have doubled over the past five years. National data indicates that approximately 285 incidents of physical violence against staff are recorded daily, leading health organisations to call for more consistent use of the Assaults on Emergency Workers Offences Act 2018.
