The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Bootle and the wider Merseyside area, effective from 6pm on Saturday 4 April until midday on Easter Sunday, 5 April 2026. Residents should prepare for 18 hours of potentially disruptive weather as a strong system of low pressure moves across the region.

Forecasters expect peak wind gusts to reach 50-60 mph across most of the area, while more exposed coastal and elevated locations could see gusts between 60-70 mph. These conditions are driven by a rapidly deepening area of low pressure, which has been intensified by a cold air mass moving from Canada into the North Atlantic, strengthening the jet stream.

The timing of the high winds is expected to coincide with the busiest Easter on UK roads in four years. The Met Office warns that holidaymakers may face travel delays or cancellations across road, rail, air, and ferry services. There is also a possibility that some roads and bridges may be closed due to the severity of the conditions.

Beyond travel disruption, residents should be aware of a slight risk of property damage, such as roof tiles being blown off, and potential power cuts that could affect mobile phone coverage. Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley noted that the winds should gradually ease throughout Easter Sunday as the low-pressure system moves toward the North Sea.
