The Met Office has issued a Yellow Wind Warning for Blackpool and the wider North West, effective from 6pm on Saturday 4 April 2026 until midday on Easter Sunday 5 April 2026. Residents and visitors should prepare for significant weather disruption as a deepening area of low pressure brings strong winds, which could lead to travel delays, potential power cuts, and hazardous conditions along the coast.

Forecasters anticipate peak wind gusts of 50-60 mph across the region, with speeds in exposed coastal areas like Blackpool reaching between 60-70 mph. The system, driven by a powerful jet stream tracking across the UK, arrives as the country faces its busiest Easter on the roads in four years, with nearly 21 million leisure journeys expected through the bank holiday weekend.

The RNLI Blackpool advises the public to remain cautious near coastal areas during high winds, noting that during similar events such as Storm Ashley in October 2024, the charity urged people to stay away from the promenade and sea walls. There is a risk that large waves could throw debris onto coastal roads and properties, and there remains a chance that some local roads or bridges may be closed if conditions worsen.

Those with plans in the area over the weekend are encouraged to check their travel arrangements and secure any loose outdoor items before the warning begins on Saturday evening. The strong winds are expected to clear toward the North Sea by Sunday afternoon.
