Residents in Walton-On-Thames are being encouraged by Elmbridge Borough Council to check their designated polling station ahead of the local elections taking place on Thursday, 7 May 2026. Because of a recent review of voting districts, some residents may find their usual polling place has changed.

These upcoming elections are part of a major change to local government in Surrey, which will see the creation of the new East Surrey Council. This new body will eventually take over local services from April 2027, with the new authority set to have 72 councillors representing 36 wards, including 18 councillors for the Elmbridge area.

For those intending to vote in person, polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on election day. Voters must bring an accepted form of photo ID to the polling station. Anyone who does not have an accepted form of ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate, but they must do so by 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April 2026. Information on this process can be found through the Future Surrey hub.

Residents must also ensure they are on the electoral register, with the deadline for applications set for midnight on Monday, 20 April 2026. Additionally, residents who previously applied for a permanent postal vote before 30 January 2024 should be aware that these expired on 31 January 2026. Those affected will need to submit a new application to vote by post.
