Banbury United FC suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Royston Town in a Southern League Premier Division Central match on Friday, 3 April 2026. A crowd of 606 spectators gathered at the Spencer Stadium to watch the fixture, which saw the visitors secure a late winning goal after an earlier equaliser from the home side.

Banbury midfielder Alex Prosser, 25, scored the goal for the team nicknamed the Puritans. Prosser, who previously played for Aston Villa’s youth sides and joined Banbury in October 2024, found the net to bring the game level before the late setback. Despite the effort, the result leaves Banbury in 12th position in the league standings, having earned 53 points from 37 matches played this season.

The visiting side, managed by Chris Watters, arrived in Banbury sitting in 21st place. Founded in 1875, Royston Town are currently competing in the same division following a challenging campaign that has seen them record 25 points from 38 matches.

The match was managed for the Puritans by Kelvin Langmead, who was appointed to the role in October 2024. Langmead is a familiar figure to supporters, having been a key member of the side that achieved promotion to the National League North in 2022 before the club was relegated at the end of the 2023-24 season.
