Residents in Middlesbrough should prepare for travel disruption and strong winds this weekend as the Met Office has issued a Yellow Wind Warning for the area. The warning for Storm Dave is in effect from 5pm on Saturday 4 April until 7am on Sunday 5 April 2026.

During this period, forecasters expect wind gusts to reach between 50 and 60 mph across the region. In more exposed coastal areas, those speeds could climb to between 60 and 70 mph. The strongest winds are anticipated on Saturday evening, during which time there is a brief possibility of gusts reaching 70 to 80 mph.

The weather system is expected to impact various forms of transport, meaning residents planning travel should anticipate potential cancellations and longer journey times for road, rail, air, and ferry services. Additionally, there is a possibility of power cuts while the storm passes through. The RAC has also advised drivers to exercise caution, particularly those operating high-sided vehicles on exposed routes.

Storm Dave, which is being driven toward the United Kingdom by a powerful jet stream, is the fourth named storm of the 2025/26 season. It follows earlier storms Amy, Bram, and Chandra. The current warning was updated on 3 April 2026 to cover a wider area across northern England and Wales, reflecting an increased likelihood of impacts in the region.

For ongoing updates on local emergency planning, residents are encouraged to monitor information provided by Middlesbrough Council.
