Emergency services responded to a flat fire at Kingsbridge Point on Clarence Street in Swindon town centre on Saturday, 4 April 2026, forcing a temporary road closure while crews worked to bring the blaze under control.
The Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 12:55pm. Four fire crews from Swindon, Westlea, Cricklade, and Stratton were deployed to the scene, along with an aerial ladder platform from Swindon, to tackle the fire inside the residential building.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a main line, and positive pressure ventilation to extinguish the flames, with the situation brought under control by 2:11pm. While crews worked, Wiltshire Police managed the closure of Clarence Street and assisted with the evacuation of residents. Those displaced by the incident were directed to a police point on Euclid Street for refuge.
The Swindon Borough Council area saw emergency support extended by the South Western Ambulance Service, which stationed a crew on Euclid Street as a precaution against potential smoke inhalation. No injuries were reported during the incident, and it is understood that no one was inside the flat when the fire began.
Clarence Street was reopened to motorists shortly after 2:30pm, and the cordon around the building was removed. A formal investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
