To celebrate the day, the council is hosting a market event at the Green Bank Leisure Centre on Civic Way in Swadlincote. The event will bring together a variety of local organisations to provide advice, support, and information on the range of health services available across the district.
This year, the World Health Organization is observing the day under the theme “Together for health. Stand with science.” The global campaign highlights how scientific collaboration helps protect the health of people, animals, and the planet. In support of this, local officials are promoting simple, evidence-based actions such as increasing physical activity and spending time in nature.
The council has recently launched its 2026 Adult Activity Brochure, which includes details on fitness sessions and wellbeing initiatives. Residents are also encouraged to participate in the Get Active in the Forest programme, which offers free, guided walks at sites including the Rosliston Forestry Centre.
