Local performers have the chance to join a major production of Disney’s Frozen as Portsmouth Theatres has officially opened auditions for the musical. The show is being staged at the historic New Theatre Royal, and residents of all ages are invited to apply before the deadline at midnight on Sunday 12 April 2026. Those who wish to audition will take part in the process on Sunday 26 April 2026.

This production will take place at the New Theatre Royal, a Grade II listed Victorian building in Guildhall Walk that dates back to 1854. The venue, which underwent a major remodelling by the celebrated architect Frank Matcham in 1900, is one of two historic theatres in the city associated with his work. Portsmouth holds the unique distinction of being the only city outside of London that boasts two operating Frank Matcham theatres, the other being the Kings Theatre on Albert Road.

The opportunity follows the formal merger of the Kings Theatre and the New Theatre Royal, which was completed in April 2025. This union brought both venues under the unified leadership of the Portsmouth Theatres banner, headed by CEO Richard Pearce and Artistic Director and Deputy CEO Jack Edwards. The two venues previously began their collaborative work with a joint production of Snow White in July 2025.

Interested performers looking for more information on the application process can visit the official Portsmouth Theatres website.
