Residents in Warrington will have a rare opportunity to explore the historic interiors of Walton Hall during a special open day. The event, hosted by the Friends of Walton Estate, invites the public to tour the venue at no cost.
The open day is part of the national Heritage Open Days festival, which runs from 11 to 20 September 2026. Visitors will be able to access several rooms in the Victorian country house that are typically reserved for private hires and weddings, including the Concert Room, the Ruby Room, and the Daresbury Room.
Built between 1836 and 1838 by the Greenall family, the hall is a Grade II listed building designed in a mock Elizabethan style. Warrington Borough Council has owned the estate since 1941, when it was purchased for £19,000 during the Second World War. The council later opened the grounds to the public on 19 May 1945.
The Friends of Walton Estate, a volunteer group formed in 2000, organises the event to help preserve the history of the site. The estate currently remains a popular local destination, welcoming approximately 330,000 visitors each year.
