Residents in Banbury are invited to attend a free film screening and workshop on 25 April 2026, aimed at helping local families and neighbours prepare for emergency situations. The event, which takes place at 2 PM at Lock29 in the Castle Quay Shopping Centre, is being hosted by the Banbury Community Action Group.

The afternoon will feature a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing, a documentary released on 7 April 2026. The film examines the impacts of climate and nature changes on health, food security, and the economy, while offering practical perspectives on how communities can respond. Following the film, attendees will participate in a workshop focused on emergency preparedness. As part of the session, participants will receive items to help them begin building their own personal emergency kits.

The event is supported by Oxfordshire County Council through its community resilience small grants programme, which has distributed £12,000 in funding across 11 local groups to promote climate adaptation. This effort is coordinated alongside Community Action Groups Oxfordshire, a network of more than 100 groups working to improve sustainability across the county.

These local initiatives respond to a growing need for preparedness in the region. Since 2007, Oxfordshire has faced a variety of extreme weather challenges, including 20 significant flood events, 12 named storms, eight cold snaps, four major heatwaves, and three periods of drought.

Attendance at the Banbury event is free, though organisers require that residents reserve a ticket in advance to ensure space.
