The Norfolk Constabulary is appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Costessey, near Norwich, that claimed the life of a man in his 90s.

The incident took place at approximately 12:10am on Saturday, 4 April 2026, when a white Fiat Panda was involved in a single-vehicle collision at the junction of Dereham Road and William Frost Way. The driver was taken to hospital following the crash but passed away a few hours later.

Emergency services, including police, fire, ambulance, and air ambulance crews, attended the scene. The road remained closed throughout the night to allow for an investigation and was reopened by National Highways at approximately 6:30am the following morning.

The investigation is being led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, a specialist team established to examine fatal road incidents. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses relevant dashcam footage to contact them by calling 01953 424048 or emailing [email protected], quoting reference 36/23473/26.

Dereham Road has previously been identified as a site of concern regarding road safety. According to Norfolk County Council, the road has historically seen collision rates three times higher than the national average, prompting the implementation of various safety measures, including a reduction in the speed limit to 30mph.
