Leisure World Colchester is set to launch new weekly swimming classes for babies and toddlers starting on 15 April 2026. These additional sessions, which will take place every Wednesday, are designed to help young children build water confidence and develop essential swimming skills in a supported environment.

The new programme, overseen by Colchester City Council, includes two distinct sessions held between 12:00pm and 1:00pm. An Adult and Baby class for those aged four months to two years will run from 12:00pm to 12:30pm, followed by an Adult and Toddler class for ages two to four from 12:30pm to 1:00pm. These instructor-led sessions follow the Swim England Pre-School Foundation Framework, which focuses on water familiarity while ensuring young children remain close to adult support.

These classes have been introduced in direct response to local demand and will complement the existing swimming pathway already available at the facility on Cowdray Avenue. Councillor Martin Goss, the Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods, and Leisure at Colchester City Council, welcomed the expansion, stating that the sessions provide a great opportunity for families to get active together while supporting early childhood development.

The addition of these classes continues the council’s focus on leisure as a way to support community health. Recent data shows that swimming participation at the council-run centre currently exceeds the national average by 7%. Officials note that these leisure facilities provide significant social value, including broader health benefits for the community.

Parents and carers interested in these new sessions can find further information and booking details through the Leisure World website.
