Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is appealing for witnesses after a series of assaults took place in Fratton on the evening of 22 March 2026. The incident occurred between 9:00pm and 11:00pm near the pedestrian crossing outside The Gym Group on Rodney Road.
According to police reports, a woman in her 30s was punched in the face by a man. The same individual then reportedly assaulted a man on the opposite side of the road who had been filming the incident. Witnesses stated that the attacker acted erratically, entering the road on both foot and bicycle, which forced several drivers, including those in a white convertible Audi, a silver Vauxhall Corsa, and a Tesco delivery van, to stop or swerve.
Officers have arrested a 28-year-old man from Portsmouth on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault in connection with the event.
