Two shops in Blackpool have been ordered to close by the courts following an investigation into the sale of illegal tobacco and vapes. The enforcement action, led by Blackpool Council in partnership with the Lancashire Constabulary, resulted in the closure of Easy Mini Market on Mayfield Avenue and Nova Supermarket on Central Drive.
The court orders were granted on 2 April 2026 and require both businesses to remain shut for three months until 1 July 2026. During inspections, officers seized 4,520 cigarettes and 335 vapes with a total value of £6,700. The shops had continued to sell illegal goods and age-restricted products to minors despite receiving previous warnings and advice from the council.
These closures represent the seventh and eighth instances of such enforcement action taken by the council since 2024. Councillor Paula Burdess, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Street Scene and Neighbourhoods, who oversees community safety for the council, stated that the local authority remains committed to preventing the sale of these hazardous items, particularly to children.
Residents are encouraged to help the council address this issue by reporting suspected sales of illegal tobacco. Information can be provided to the Trading Standards team by calling 01253 478375 or by emailing [email protected].
