Residents of Southend-on-Sea should prepare for a week of changeable spring weather as scattered showers and sunny intervals arrive following a record-breaking warm spell. According to the Met Office, the local forecast includes a mix of rain and mild temperatures, with higher-than-average pollen levels expected throughout the coming days.

Monday 13 April is predicted to be the wettest day of the week. There is a high risk of rain, particularly in the afternoon and evening, with the chance of precipitation reaching 90 per cent by 6pm. The forecast also warns of the potential for hail and thunder during the day. Residents with hay fever should take note that pollen counts are expected to remain high throughout the week, with high levels of birch pollen and moderate levels of ash pollen in the air.

Following the unsettled conditions at the start of the week, Tuesday 14 April is expected to be the driest day, with very little chance of rain for most of the morning and afternoon. However, the week remains breezy, with wind gusts expected to reach up to 24mph on Tuesday and peaking at 27mph on Wednesday 15 April.

Temperatures will see a gradual rise as the week progresses. After starting at 13°C on Monday, thermometers are expected to reach a high of 18°C by Friday 17 April. This return to typical spring conditions follows an unseasonably warm period earlier in the month, which saw temperatures reach 26.6°C at Kew Gardens on 8 April.
