Dorset Council is carrying out final resurfacing work on Poole Road near Upton Country Park on 14 and 15 April 2026, which will result in temporary road and car park closures during the day.
The work is taking place between 9am and 4pm on both days. During these hours, the Poole Road car park, often used by dog walkers, will be closed to the public. The main car park at Upton Country Park will remain open as normal, and both the road and the dog walkers’ car park will reopen to visitors after 4pm each day.
This resurfacing marks the final phase of a 12-week safety improvement scheme that began in January 2026. The project was designed to address safety concerns at the junction, which saw eight injury collisions over a five-year period, including two serious incidents. Upgrades to the area include a new parallel crossing, wider footways, a reduced 30mph speed limit, and modifications to the junction layout.
Councillor Jon Andrews, Dorset Council Cabinet Member for Place Services, described the improvements as vital for the safety and wellbeing of local communities. Visitors planning to use the Poole Road entrance are advised to allow extra time for their journeys or use the main park entrance during the two-day closure period.
Separately, residents should be aware that public transport may also be affected by other road works in the area. According to Morebus, routes 8, 9, and 40 are currently subject to diversions due to resurfacing work on Dorchester Road in Upton, which concludes on 14 April.
