Residents in Norwich can now review the full list of candidates standing for election on 7 May 2026, following the publication of the official nominations by Norwich City Council. The lists, which detail everyone running for city council seats and county council divisions, were made available to the public at 4pm on Friday 10 April 2026.

A total of 14 city council seats are up for election across 13 wards. The Wensum ward will see two seats contested this year due to a vacancy following the resignation of a councillor. These elections take place while the city council remains under no overall control, with the current seat distribution split between Labour, the Green Party, Liberal Democrats, and one Independent councillor.

The upcoming vote marks a significant moment for local politics, as Reform UK is fielding candidates in every ward for both the city and county council elections. Meanwhile, the Norfolk County Council elections are moving forward this year after being postponed from their original 2025 date due to wider changes in local government. Looking further ahead, the entire structure of local government in the region is set for a major overhaul, with eight current councils to be replaced by three new unitary authorities by April 2028.

Residents are reminded that a combined mayoral election for Norfolk and Suffolk, which was originally expected to take place on 7 May 2026, has been officially delayed until 2028. For those intending to vote in the upcoming local elections, it is mandatory to present an accepted form of photo ID at the polling station.

To participate, voters must ensure they are registered by 11.59pm on 20 April 2026. The deadlines for requesting a postal vote and a proxy vote are 5pm on 21 April and 5pm on 28 April, respectively. Once the polls close, the count will be held at the Sportspark at the University of East Anglia on Friday 8 May 2026, with results provided throughout the day on the council website.
